Avery® wrapping travels to World Cup

19 March 2010

Dutch applicator SignApply performed a challenging project using Avery® Supreme Wrapping film Orange to wrap a varied fleet of 9 vehicles for an exciting test of endurance.

Leaving Amsterdam on 3 April 2010, the convoy will drive 20,000 kilometres across Africa to reach Cape Town in time for the kick-off of the World Cup football tournament. A group of 40 young adventurers will leave from the Amsterdam Olympic Stadium on a journey that will test endurance and team effort. Travelling through 17 countries, they will raise awareness for Africa, sponsor projects along the way and make themselves known as Orange supporters.

Orange Trophy is an initiative of Going Dutch, an organisation that combines adventure with charity. The project’s sponsors include Cor Millenaar, who provided a Mercedes-G, as well as Dutch design company I-OMS.

The tour will be a true test of endurance – not only for drivers, but also for Avery Dennison. It will cover a distance of 20,000 kilometres over a period of 10 weeks and travel through rough and varied terrain, including African deserts, mountainous areas and national parks.

Dutch applicator Wim De Koning from Sign Apply sponsored the project by providing the wrapping work of the team’s vehicles. “A challenging project”, says De Koning. “Although we had been working with Avery Dennison for years, we didn’t have much experience with the Avery® Supreme Wrapping film Orange that Avery provided for the project.”

“What’s more,” De Koning continues, “most vehicles weren’t brand new, so their surface contained rough areas. Initially we had some doubts whether we would be able to wrap all 9 vehicles in time and with sufficient quality that would stand the test of terrain and temperature variation. However, the film’s flexibility and easy repositioning proved so successful that now we wonder whether there is any vehicle that couldn’t be wrapped with this film!”

When the tour has been completed and the convoy is back in the Netherlands, you will be able to see with your own eyes just how well the Avery® Supreme Wrapping film performed under such harsh and varied conditions.
