UK vehicle wrapping specialists Totally Dynamic chose Avery Dennison films to wrap – in just two days – 11 vehicles specially for the Olympics closing ceremony, as well as the 10-vehicle Samsung sponsors’ torch relay fleet.
Olympic Games ticket holders and TV viewers around the world will have seen the results ofTotally Dynamic’s record-breaking work when they watched the closing ceremony, because no less than 11 vehicles featured in the parade sported cool vehicle wraps usingAvery Dennison films, made and applied by Totally Dynamic’s North and South London teams.
Owner of Totally Dynamic’s North & South London centres, Scott Coleman, was given a secret briefing by the Games organisers, less than a week before the closing ceremony, to wrap the vehicles – which had to be completed in just two days to be ready for the parade rehearsals!
First to be rushed through were eight Massey Ferguson tractors – destined to haul the mobile billboards around the Olympic Stadium during the ‘Fashion’ sequence. They were originally bright red – and the organisers felt they stood out too much. Totally Dynamic wrapped them in matte black Avery Supreme Wrapping Film so they would melt into the background.
Next came three cars that also featured prominently in the closing ceremony’s opening parade, after the newspaper-wrapped cars had left the scene. An Alfa Romeo Mito was dressed in bright pink; a BMW X1 in bright baby blue; and a Volvo C70 in purple. All were printed to colour-matched specifications onAvery MPI 1005, overlaminated with Avery Digital overlaminate.
Says Scott Coleman: ‘This was one of the biggest rush jobs we have ever had to do. We were given the final go-ahead on Tuesday evening and had to have all 11 vehicles fully wrapped by Thursday afternoon. The vehicles had to be worked on at the rehearsal site, because there was just no time for them to be transported to us.’
Totally Dynamic andAvery Dennison films also had a part in the colourful cavalcade of the Torch Relay prior to the games. Ten vehicles that formed the supporting fleet of sponsors Samsung were wrapped in the company’s corporate blue, enhanced with a design which incorporated shards of blue in different shades. The livery – once again featuring Avery Dennison films -- was carried on a variety of vehicles, from the specially converted high-tech DAF CF truck, to Mercedes Vito vans, quad bikes and even the helmets of the four quad bike outriders.
Anyone who saw the closing ceremony, or watched the torch relay as it passed along the roads of the UK prior to the Games, could see for themselves the quality and professionalism of the self-adhesive wraps and graphics. And here at Avery Dennison Graphics and Reflective Solutions, we’d like to congratulate Totally Dynamic on their gold medal performance in the 2012 Olympics!
